The government of Ghana is cracking down on illegal mining with about 200 soldiers deployed about a week ago to check unlawful mining activity around waterways. Ghana’s water utility agency earlier disclosed that pollution from mining activities has contaminated the country’s water sources, affecting access to drinking water.
