<p>Hong Kong stocks led declines in Asia on Monday after Beijing&#8217;s latest stimulus fell short of investor expectations, overshadowing Wall Street&#8217;s record highs from Friday and futures pointing to further strength at the reopen.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-world-oil-prices">WORLD OIL PRICES</h2>



<p>Oil prices extended declines on Monday as the threat of a supply disruption from a U.S. storm eased and after China&#8217;s stimulus plan disappointed investors seeking fuel demand growth in the world&#8217;s No. 2 oil consumer.</p>

<p>Ghana, the world&#8217;s number two cocoa producer, has raised the fixed farmgate price paid to cocoa farmers for the second time this 2024/25 season to help boost farmers&#8217; incomes, President Nana Akufo-Addo said.</p>

<p>JOHANNESBURG, Nov 7 (Reuters)&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;South Africa&#8217;s rand recouped some losses on Thursday, a day after emerging market assets took a hit following Donald Trump&#8217;s win in the U.S. election.</p>



<p>At 0820 GMT, the rand traded at 17.5175 against the dollar, over 0.7% stronger than its previous close. The local currency fell about 2.5% against the greenback at one point on Wednesday amid volatile trading.</p>



<p>The dollar slipped from a four-month high and was last down 0.3% against a basket of currencies, ahead of an interest rate decision by the Federal Reserve later in the day.</p>



<p>The Fed is expected to reduce rates by 25 basis points, while market focus will also be on further clues from the U.S. central bank on the way forward.</p>



<p>Locally, data released by South Africa&#8217;s central bank earlier showed the country&#8217;s net foreign reserves rose to $61.197 billion at the end of October from $61.029 billion in September.</p>



<p>On the stock market, the Top-40 index was last up 0.7%.</p>



<p>South Africa&#8217;s benchmark 2030 government bond was stronger, with the yield down 10 basis points to 9.3%.</p>

<p>JOHANNESBURG, Nov 4 (Reuters)&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;South Africa&#8217;s rand gained in early trade on Monday against a weaker dollar, as investors geared up for the U.S. to elect its next president and the Federal Reserve&#8217;s interest rate announcement this week.</p>



<p>At 0613 GMT, the rand traded at 17.5250 against the U.S. dollar, about 0.8% stronger than its previous close.</p>



<p>The dollar last traded about 0.2% weaker against a basket of currencies.</p>



<p>&#8220;The US presidential election on Nov. 5 is the main event this week, eclipsing even the Federal Reserve&#8217;s interest-rate decision two days later,&#8221; said Jee-A van der Linde, senior economist at Oxford Economics in a research note.</p>



<p>As the world&#8217;s biggest economy heads to the polls on Tuesday, Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris are virtually tied in opinion polls.</p>



<p>On Thursday, markets will look to the Fed&#8217;s latest rate decision, where investors expect a 25-basis-point rate cut.</p>



<p>&#8220;These developments will be the main driving forces for financial market,&#8221; van der Linde added.</p>

<p>JOHANNESBURG, Oct 30 (Reuters)&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;The South African rand was marginally weaker in early trade on Wednesday, ahead of a keenly-awaited budget speech by the finance minister.</p>



<p>At 0612 GMT, the rand traded at 17.6725 against the U.S. dollar, down 0.1% on its previous close.</p>



<p>The mid-term budget starts around 1200 GMT and is the first under a coalition government formed after the African National Congress party lost its majority.</p>



<p>The coalition government has committed to lifting economic growth and making progress with reforms, boosting investor confidence and contributing to a rally in the rand and local currency debt.</p>



<p>&#8220;The currency market will be watching closely for signs of such reforms and structural improvements,&#8221; Commerzbank analyst Volkmar Baur said in a note.</p>



<p>&#8220;Nevertheless, the fiscal situation is tight and the budget will, hence, provide an insight into the government&#8217;s priorities.&#8221;</p>



<p>Economists polled by Reuters predict Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will announce a lower 2024/25 budget deficit estimate than was given in February&#8217;s main budget.</p>



<p>But further out Godongwana faces traditional challenges, including state companies seeking bailouts and trade unions demanding above-inflation wage hikes.</p>



<p>South Africa&#8217;s benchmark 2030 government bond rose slightly in early deals, as the yield fell 3.5 basis points to 9.235%.</p>

<p>JOHANNESBURG, Oct 28 (Reuters)&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;South Africa&#8217;s rand was little changed in early trade on Monday, with Wednesday&#8217;s mid-term budget the main focal point for investors this week.</p>



<p>At 0720 GMT the rand traded at 17.67 against the U.S. dollar, not far from its previous close of 17.6725. The dollar was also broadly flat against a basket of global currencies.</p>



<p>The finance minister&#8217;s medium term budget policy statement in parliament on Wednesday gives an update on the health of public finances midway through the fiscal year. It will be the first &#8220;mini budget&#8221; under the coalition government formed in June.</p>



<p>A Reuters poll of economists published last week predicted the finance minister will announce a lower 2024/25 budget deficit estimate than was given in February&#8217;s main budget, but fiscal challenges are expected to slow consolidation efforts next year.</p>



<p>&#8220;Although this is not a policy-setting event, any indication of credible fiscal reforms would support market confidence and the rand,&#8221; Andre Cilliers, currency strategist at TreasuryONE, said in a note.</p>



<p>Other domestic data releases this week include September credit extension and money supply data on Tuesday, September producer inflation and trade balance data  on Thursday, and October vehicle sales figures on Friday.</p>



<p>South Africa&#8217;s benchmark 2030 government bond was softer in early deals, with the yield up 3 basis points to 9.315%.</p>

<p>Oct 28 (Reuters) &#8211; The following company announcements, scheduled economic indicators, debt and currency market moves and political events may affect African markets on Monday.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-global-markets">GLOBAL MARKETS</h2>



<p>The yen hit a three-month low on Monday as Japan&#8217;s ruling party lost its parliamentary majority, while oil tumbled after Israel&#8217;s weekend strike on Iran bypassed oil or nuclear targets.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-world-oil-prices">WORLD OIL PRICES</h2>



<p>Oil prices tumbled more than $3 a barrel on Monday after Israel&#8217;s retaliatory strike on Iran over the weekend bypassed Tehran&#8217;s oil and nuclear facilities and did not disrupt energy supplies, easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-south-africa-markets">SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS</h2>



<p>South Africa&#8217;s rand firmed on Friday while local investors geared up for the country&#8217;s mid-term budget next week.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kenya-markets">KENYA MARKETS</h2>



<p>The Kenyan shilling was unmoved against the dollar on Friday, data from the London Stock Exchange Group showed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-ghana-security">GHANA SECURITY</h2>



<p>Ghana&#8217;s government on Saturday rejected Reuters reporting on Islamist militants in Burkina Faso that found they are discreetly using neighbouring Ghana&#8217;s north as a logistical and medical base to sustain their insurgency.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-imf-nigeria">IMF NIGERIA</h2>



<p>Nigeria is considering a diaspora bond in the United States next year and is targeting remittance inflows of $1 billion a month, its central bank chief told Reuters on Thursday.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kenya-energy">KENYA ENERGY</h2>



<p>Kenya&#8217;s high court on Friday suspended a $736 million deal between a state utility and India&#8217;s Adani Energy Solutions to build and operate power infrastructure including transmission lines.</p>
