COVID-19: Lagos reviews measures to protect communities

As Nigeria faces a surge in COVID-19 cases, Lagos, the state with the highest number of cases, is taking proactive steps to protect its communities. In a recent interview with CNBC Africa, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu highlighted the importance of reviewing and enhancing measures to ensure the safety of its residents. To support this goal, the government implemented the World Food Program to provide assistance to 200,000 households. In addition to existing measures, the Lagos State government announced new initiatives to complement the World Food Program. During the lockdown period in April, the government will cover the medical costs of patients in specific categories at designated health facilities across the state. This includes all medical expenses for emergency cases, maternity services for pregnant women, and admissions during the month of April. The aim is to ensure that individuals with pre-existing conditions receive the necessary medical care without financial burden. Governor Sanwoolu recognized the strain this may put on medical personnel but expressed confidence in their ability to meet the challenge. He assured the public that healthcare providers are committed to delivering quality care to all patients in need.
