Tanzania & Burundi’s exports to Africa increase

Tanzania and Burundi have shown remarkable resilience in their export sectors despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the East African Business Council, Tanzania's exports to African countries reached a value of $2.2 billion in 2020, marking an 11.8% increase from the previous year. In a similar trend, Burundi's export of goods to Africa surged to $62.3 million in 2020, reflecting a significant growth of 25% compared to 2019. John Bosco Kalisa, CEO of the East African Business Council, emphasized the strategic measures taken by the region to navigate the impact of the pandemic and boost economic recovery. Kalisa highlighted the region's focus on maintaining trade flow and services amid the crisis, which contributed to the impressive export figures recorded by Tanzania and Burundi.
