What economists expect from Godongwana’s mid-term budget speech

In just a few hours, South Africa’s Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will deliver his maiden medium term budget statement, which outlines governments priorities over the next three years. He is walking in as commodities boom, which will give him extra fire power to deal with a myriad of funding needs. However, he also has to deal with the carnage from Covid19 pandemic and persistent power cuts that have frustrated industry and consumers.
