Boosting Africa’s collective strategy to insecurity crisis

In a recent interview with CNBC Africa, Djime Adoum, the High Representative of the Coalition for the Sahel, emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing among African countries to combat the growing resurgence of terrorism and other security risks. Speaking at the International Forum of Dakar on Peace and Security in Africa, Adoum highlighted the necessity for African policymakers to focus on developing policies that encompass democracy, development, and effective security responses. The coalition, established with a roadmap featuring four key pillars including countering terrorism, strengthening armed forces, providing essential services, and heavy-duty investments, has been making significant progress since February 2021. Adoum's efforts have been focused on bringing together various stakeholders to understand the purpose and value added by the coalition. By engaging with heads of state, ministers, and partners, he has successfully garnered support from over 60 members worldwide. The strategic objectives of the coalition revolve around maintaining mobilization and combating fatigue in addressing security issues. Adoum emphasized that knowledge gained from the Sahel region should be shared to help neighboring coastal countries facing similar security threats. The coalition's progress is evident in the improved understanding and cooperation among stakeholders, ensuring a coordinated approach to security challenges in the region. Despite internal dynamics within the G5 countries, Adoum's diplomatic efforts have led to a collaborative approach in tackling security issues.
