Seamfix secures $4.5mn funding to expand digital ID services in Africa

Seamfix, a global digital identity solutions provider, has recently announced securing $4.5 million from Alitheia IDF in a private equity funding round. The funding is intended to scale the company's technology infrastructure, enhance data flow crucial for continental trade and integration, and kickstart the expansion of its digital ID and credential services into five new African countries. Chibuzor Onwurah, Co-founder and Executive Director at Seamfix, shared insights into the company's journey and vision in a recent interview with CNBC Africa. The company has been actively involved in Nigeria, serving key entities such as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), telecommunications firms, banks, and fintech companies. Through its electronic ID and credential software, Seamfix has facilitated the enrollment of over 100 million Nigerians in the national identity system and supported processes like KYC for fintech onboarding. Expanding its footprint beyond Nigeria, Seamfix plans to venture into Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Uganda. By broadening its services across multiple African countries, the company seeks to promote the digital identity economy and provide equal opportunities for individuals globally. Onwurah emphasized Seamfix's commitment to the principles that identity is a right, not a privilege, and that everyone deserves equal access to opportunities irrespective of their background.
