Rwanda and Eswatini deepen trade ties

Rwanda and Eswatini have solidified their already strong bilateral relations with the signing of a mutual visa exemption agreement following President Paul Kagame's inauguration on August 11, where King Mswati III of Eswatini remained in Rwanda to advance trade and cooperation. The two nations have a long history of friendship and cooperation, with both leaders expressing their commitment to further enhancing their bonds in various sectors including defense, security, ICT, education, agriculture, tourism, and trade. The purpose of the agreements signed during this visit is to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration between Rwanda and Eswatini in order to drive tangible results on the ground. The visit highlighted the importance of implementing the agreements to maximize the benefits for both countries. Rwanda's Cooperative or Cooperation Initiative was established to share the country's experience in its transformation journey with partners like Eswatini. The memorandum of understanding signed seeks to operationalize the general cooperation agreement signed two years ago, focusing on areas such as trade, tourism, economics, scientific, technical, environmental, educational, and cultural matters. This will facilitate the exchange of skills, technical expertise, and knowledge between the two countries. Both Rwanda and Eswatini are recognized for their advancements in various sectors. Rwanda's ICT programs, exemplified by companies like Irembo Technology Company, and special economic zones dedicated to cyber security programs were highlighted during the visit. Eswatini, on the other hand, has developed similar facilities such as the Rural Science Technology Park and special economic zones, demonstrating a potential for mutual learning and collaboration to drive development in both nations. Looking ahead, both countries see opportunities for cooperation in sectors such as agriculture and tourism. Rwanda, known for its advanced agricultural practices, can share best practices and technology with Eswatini to enhance productivity. Additionally, collaboration in the tourism sector, leveraging the countries' global reputation as tourist destinations, can help attract more visitors and boost economic growth. As members of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Rwanda and Eswatini aim to enhance business opportunities for their people through increased trade and cooperation. The signing of the mutual visa exemption agreement and the operationalization of the general cooperation agreement mark significant steps towards deepening the ties between the two nations. The commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various sectors sets a positive tone for future collaborations between Rwanda and Eswatini.
