In an unexpected turn of events, attempts by South African authorities to hold former Steinhoff boss Markus Jooste to account, have been dealt a blow.

In an unexpected turn of events, attempts by South African authorities to hold Markus Jooste, the former Steinhoff CEO and alleged mastermind behind South Africa’s biggest corporate scandal have been dealt a blow.

Yesterday the JSE sanctioned former Steinhoff CEO, Markus Jooste with a 20 year ban from being a director on a listed company and a R15 million fine.

South Africa's accounting and audit industry has not been covered in glory lately with recent public and private sector scandals from Steinhoff and Tongaat to poor financial management at state owned enterprises.

Its been four years since the Steinhoff fraud debacle - which exposed weakness in South Africa's once highly regarded corporate governance framework.
