<p>Kenya&#8217;s Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani is set to issue the 2021/22 Fiscal year budget statement tomorrow. This year&#8217;s budget is set in the context of a very challenging economic environment. So, what does the budget hold for SMEs who have been hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic? <p>Illovo Sugar South Africa initiated a project to develop up to 3 000 hectares of small-scale grower cane land. This is on the Kwa-Zulu Natal South Coast. In partnership with National Treasury through the Jobs Fund, this has lead to the creation of over 1 100 new jobs and the training of more than 1 600 people. <p>The Africa Finance Corporation says it has exceeded 30 member states, representing more than half the continent after Burkina Faso, Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo became members of the development institution. <p>The CEO of Page Financials, Segun Akintemi says players in Nigeria’s finance industry are witnessing lots of request for loan restructuring because of customers losing their jobs or having their salaries slashed. <p>In Tanzania, according to the 2021/2022 budget framework and National Development Plan, the government plans to collect and spend a total of $15.6 billion during the coming financial year, out of which about $5.7 billion will be spent on development projects alone. <p>Family Bank Group&#8217;s net earnings for the quarter ended March 31, 2020, rose by 27.2 per cent on increased net interest income as business slowed by Covid-19 slowly recovered. Moreover, after the bank redeemed its five and a half years Medium Term Note worth about $18.6 million on April 19, the bank received formal approval from the Capital Markets Authority to float a $74.1 million bond to strengthen its capital base and support lending.
