<p>Mauritius remains the wealthiest country in Africa. This is according to the latest AfrAsia Bank, Africa Wealth Report. Although private wealth levels fell 9 per cent as a result of Covid-19, private wealth held in Africa is expected to rise 30 per cent by 2030 &#8211; reaching $2.6 trillion. <p>Clicks has reported a 9.5 per cent rise in diluted headline earnings per share, year-on-year, for the six months ended February. At the end of the period, the retailer held cash of R1.1 billion. <p>Ratings agency Moody’s says that the outlook on Mauritius’s sovereign remains negative. Even with its strengths, Mauritius&#8217;s credit profile reflects a high debt burden, and a slower than expected recovery in the tourism sector. <p>Earlier this year treasury published the draft amendments to Regulation 28 of the Pension Funds Act for public comment. The matter remains contentious as questions about what this means for our pension funds remain. Capital markets company Intellidex has also responded to section 28 saying the proposed reforms are positive, but they also say some are likely to be negative from a public interest perspective. <p>Pick n Pay&#8217;s headline earnings per share dropped 21.4 per cent year-on-year for the 12 months ended February. Earnings were impacted by trading restrictions, which resulted in an about R4 billion in lost sales, and R200 million in additional costs related to Covid-19. Pick n Pay has also welcomed a new CEO. <p>South Africa’s headline consumer price inflation rose to 3.2 per cent year-on-year in March from 2.9 per cent in February. Statistics South Africa said CPI was flat at 0.7 per cent on a month-on-month basis. Core inflation, which excludes prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, fuel and energy, was at 2.5 per cent year-on-year in March, from 2.6 per cent previously.
