<p>Releasing its interim results this morning, Vodacom has reported a rise of 15.7 per cent in headline earnings per share. The company added 4.1 million customers, to serve a combined 120 million customers across the group. Vodacom declared an interim dividend of 415 cents per share up 9.2 per cent. <p>Zambia’s debt issues continue, as the country went into a sovereign default on Friday. Zambia’s Eurobond holders rejected a request from the government to defer interest payments. Zambia missed payment of a $42.5 million coupon last month. It had until the end of business on Friday, to pay. Zambia’s Vice President Inonge Wina had said that the country would not default. <p>In the third quarter, there was a significant increase of 7.5 per cent in the South African unemployment rate to 30.8 per cent. The unemployment rate &#8211; according to the expanded definition &#8211; increased by 1.1 percentage points to 43.1 per cent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter of this year.
