Sudan inflation hits 136.67% in first half – first data since start of war
DUBAI, July 29 (Reuters) – Sudan recorded an inflation rate of 136.67% in the first half of 2024, the statistics agency said on Monday, the first such data to be published since war erupted in April last year.
The war between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has driven more than 8.5 million people from their homes, creating the world’s largest displacement crisis.
Many are dependent on aid and nearly 5 million are suffering extreme hunger.
Sudan’s last published annual inflation rate was 63.3%, in February 2023, according to the statistics agency.
