Algeria believed to have bought durum wheat in tender, traders say

HAMBURG, Dec 18 (Reuters) – Algeria’s state grains agency OAIC is believed to have purchased durum wheat in an international tender on Wednesday, European traders said.

The volume bought was unclear.

Initial estimates of the purchase prices were around $340 a ton cost and freight (c&f) included for larger Panamax shipments and around $352 a ton c&f for smaller Handymax shipments.

Part of both purchases was believed to involve Canadian-origin of type Canada western amber durum (CWAD), traders said. Some was also thought to be sourced from the United States and Australia.

The tender had sought a nominal 50,000 tons for shipment in four periods in 2025: March 1-15. March 16-31, April 1-15 and April 16-30.

Algeria does not disclose the results of its tenders and results reported are based on trader assessments. More detailed estimates of prices and volume are possible later.

In its last durum tender reported on Nov. 21, Algeria made purchases at around $348 a ton c&f for Panamax shipments and around $360 a ton c&f for smaller shipments. (Reporting by Michael Hogan)
