Americans have a much shorter life expectancy compared to almost all other high-income countries, according to the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db293.pdf" class="">CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics</a>.



<a href="https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db293.pdf" class="">Recent data</a>&nbsp;reveals that people in the U.S. can expect to live an average of 78.7 years. That puts Americans well behind the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.bmj.com/content/bmj/360/bmj.k496/F1.large.jpg" class="">Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development</a>’s (OECD) average life expectancy of 80.3 years. (The OECD includes a group of developed countries like Canada, Germany, Mexico, Japan and France.)



Luckily, a 2018&nbsp;<a href="https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-releases/five-healthy-lifestyle-habits/" class="">study</a>&nbsp;from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health found five habits that could&nbsp;<a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/harvard-says-these-5-habits-can-prolong-your-life-by-10-years-2018-04-30" class="">prolong a person’s life by up to a decade</a>&nbsp;or more. For the study, researchers reviewed 34 years’ worth of data from 78,000 women and 27 years’ worth from more than 44,000 men.



The results showed a correlation between healthy behaviors and cardiovascular issues: Women and men who maintained the healthiest lifestyles were 82% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease and 65% less likely to die from cancer when compared to those with the least healthiest lifestyles over the course of the roughly 30-year study period.



The study suggested that maintaining these five habits could add up to 10 years or more to a person’s life:1. Maintain a healthy diet



This isn’t as easy as it sounds, especially when you’re juggling your work, family and social commitments. It may be tempting, for example, to grab a quick bite at a fast food chain on your lunch break or order takeout during late nights at the office.



But a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(19)30041-8/fulltext" class="">recent study</a>&nbsp;published in the British journal The Lancet found that poor diets leads to one in five deaths. It can also lead to problems like high blood pressure and diabetes. A good diet, according to the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thelancet.com/gbd" class="">researchers</a>, contains minimally processed, whole foods and grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts and any natural source of protein (i.e., fish and beans).



If you’re serious about changing your eating habits, it may help to consult with a nutritionist. But for some instant inspiration, Richard Branson’s diet isn’t a bad one to follow: The Virgin Group founder eats&nbsp;<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-successful-leaders-eat-for-breakfast-2015-10" class="">muesli and fruit salad for breakfast</a>&nbsp;every day.2. Exercise daily



It’s absolutely essential to set aside time to exercise. Even the world’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/29/what-successful-people-like-bill-gates-and-jeff-bezos-do-on-weekends.html" class="">most successful business leaders</a>, like&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/01/how-oprah-winfrey-found-her-calling.html" class="">Oprah Winfrey</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/09/jeff-bezos-sheryl-sandberg-and-other-leaders-who-prioritize-sleep.html" class="">Sheryl Sandberg</a>and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/02/micrsoft-billionaire-bill-gates-paid-30-million-for-this-book-25-years-ago-and-it-still-inspires-him-today.html" class="">Bill Gates</a>, make physical activity a daily priority.



A <a class="" href="https://www.cancer.gov/news-events/press-releases/2012/PhysicalActivityLifeExpectancy">study</a> from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) found that just small amounts of daily exercise can extend life expectancy by as much as 4.5 years. The main idea is to avoid inactivity, which can be a problem for those who have desk jobs. A few solutions: Get a standing desk, take walking meetings or dedicate 30 minutes of gym time before or after work.



“Physical activity has been shown to help maintain a healthy body weight, maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints, promote psychological well-being and reduce the risk of certain diseases,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/obesity/physical-activity-fact-sheet" class="">including some cancers</a>, ” according to the NCI.3. Keep a healthy weight



According to the Harvard study, “weight control significantly reduced the risk of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular risk factors and breast cancer.”



A “healthy” weight varies from person to person, but the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) indicates that a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm" class="">body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9</a>&nbsp;is considered healthy. (Calculate your BMI&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm" class="">here</a>.)



Make it a point to weigh yourself often — not in an obsessive way, of course. A&nbsp;<a href="https://www.prevention.com/weight-loss/a20430880/how-often-you-should-weigh-yourself-for-weight-loss/" class="">study</a>&nbsp;published in the International Journal of Obesity found that those who monitored their weight less frequently were more likely to gain weight. Start viewing the scale as tool to stay within the healthy range.4. Limit your alcohol intake



It’s hard to escape the sight of alcohol — it shows up at happy hour, conferences, social outings and so much more. To get through long days, some may even rely on alcohol as a stimulant in social settings. But there are many downsides. For starters, it can&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4338356/" class="">add to your waistline</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.asco.org/about-asco/press-center/news-releases/statement-alcohol-linked-to-cancer-november-2017" class="">increase the risk of several cancers</a>&nbsp;(i.e., breast, colon, esophagus).



While it can be difficult to moderate your alcohol intake — especially if you’re the&nbsp;<a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/article-abstract/2647075?redirect=true" class="">one in eight Americans</a>&nbsp;who struggles with alcohol addiction — keep in mind that the U.S. government’s&nbsp;<a href="https://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/2015/guidelines/appendix-9/" class="">“Dietary Guidelines”</a>publication defines “moderate drinking” as one drink for women per day and two for men. (Note: One alcoholic drink-equivalent is defined as containing 14 grams (0.6 fl oz) of pure alcohol.)



But avoiding alcohol altogether puts you in good company; Warren Buffett, an 88-year-old billionaire, is a well-known&nbsp;<a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/slideshow/299353" class="">abstainer</a>.5. Don’t smoke



It’s been decades since the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3894634/" class="">tobacco industry started losing favor</a>&nbsp;with the American public. As the health risks of smoking have become increasingly apparent, there’s been more effort in warning people about the dangerous side effects.



That doesn’t mean it’ll be easy to kick the unsightly habit, but your body will thank you in the long run. Former president Barack Obama was one successful leader who&nbsp;<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/boehner-obama-smoking-scared-to-death-of-michelle-2017-10" class="">quit smoking</a>&nbsp;through Nicorette gum. He gave up the habit while still in office and claimed to&nbsp;<a href="http://time.com/3916342/barack-obama-smoking/" class="">be “tobacco free” in 2017</a>.

A 30-year Harvard study reveals the 5 simple habits that may prolong your life by 10 years or more

NAIROBI (Reuters) &#8211; A Kenyan family has filed a lawsuit in Chicago against American aviation giant Boeing over a March 10 Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed 157 people, lawyers and family members said on Tuesday. 



Siblings of 29-year-old engineer George Kabau said they wanted to force the company to release documents and emails relating to its 737 MAX 8 model, which was grounded worldwide after two major plane crashed in Ethiopia and Indonesia.



A preliminary report released earlier this month indicated Ethiopian Airlines pilots wrestled with a computer system that repeatedly ordered the nose down because of faulty sensor data. The same system was a focus of the preliminary report into the October Lion Air crash in Indonesia, which killed 189 people.



Dozens of families are already suing Boeing over the Lion Air crash, and three lawsuits have already been lodged over the Ethiopian Airlines crash, by the families of two Americans, including consumer activist Ralph Nader’s great niece, and a Rwandan.



Lion Air’s co-founder on Monday lashed out at Boeing’s handling of the accidents.



Kabua’s sister, Esther Kabau-Wanyoike, choked up as she told a press conference that she wanted to use her brother’s death to improve aviation safety.



“He didn’t leave a child. My mum is devastated,” she said. “We can use his demise to ensure safer travel for all.”



U.S. lawyer Nomi Husain, who is also representing one of the American families, said the lawsuit was filed in Chicago late on Monday. The family was seeking to hold Boeing accountable, he said.



“We want to let the litigation process play out,” he said. “When you put profits over safety, you will be held accountable and you will pay a price.”



Boeing, which has previously declined to comment on individual lawsuits, and directed enquiries about the crash to investigating authorities, had no immediate comment on the latest case.



Kenya had the largest number of citizens on the flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi. At least 32 Kenyans were on board, the airline said at the time, although that number may be larger because some of the travellers were dual nationals and the full manifest has still not been released.

Kenyan family who lost a loved one in Ethiopian Airlines crash files lawsuit against Boeing

Are you the person in your company who cleans up your boss’s messes and soothes the hurt feelings they leave in their wake? 



If the answer is yes, says bestselling management author and CNBC contributor Suzy Welch, “you’re probably a toxic handler&nbsp;— a job likely handed to you without having been asked, and one you should shed as soon as humanly possible.”



The concept of the “toxic handler” was first introduced in a <a class="" href="https://hbr.org/1999/07/the-toxic-handler-organizational-hero-and-casualty">1999 Harvard Business Review article</a> written by Canadian business academics Sandra Robinson and the late Peter Frost. In the article, Welch tells <a class="" href="https://www.cnbc.com/make-it/">CNBC Make It</a>, “Frost and Robinson did a brilliant job describing the heroics that toxic handlers often perform to keep their teams functioning.”



“Usually,” Welch says, ”[toxic handlers] are close in stature to the boss — a second-in-command, so to speak. And in that role, they manage to do their own jobs, plus spend an inordinate amount of time putting out the fires their boss has started.”



Welch says this job is an “unhealthy full-time side hustle,” and one that probably sounds all too familiar to many professionals.&nbsp;



In almost every situation, “being a toxic handler is a dead-end gig.” For one, it’s emotionally draining. And in many cases, “jerk bosses do get fired, and their toxic handlers are usually the collateral damage that goes out the door with them.”



“There’s no shame in being a toxic handler,” she emphasizes. “It’s a role usually imposed on the nicest people in an organization.”



But if that role has been given to you then it’s in your best interest to give it back, even if that means going to HR about the situation. “Your toxic boss may not be happy — he needs you to survive,” she says. “But if&nbsp;you&nbsp;want to survive, you have to let him clean up that mess himself. ”

Sounds simple, right?



But Buffett takes it a step further by offering an analogy: “Let’s say that I offer to buy you the car of your dreams. You can pick out any car that you want, and then when you get out of class this afternoon, that car will be waiting for you at home.”



As with most things in life, Buffett says there’s just one catch: It’s the only car you’re ever going to get&#8230;in your entire life.



“Now, knowing that, how are you going to treat that car?” he asks.



“You’re probably going to read the owner’s manual four times before you drive it; you’re going to keep it in the garage, protect it at all times, change the oil twice as often as necessary,” says Buffett. “If there’s the least little bit of rust, you’re going to get that fixed immediately so it doesn’t spread — because you know it has to last you as long as you live.”



And then, like a bag of bricks, Buffett hits us with a brilliant realization: The position you’re in with your car is exactly the position you’re in concerning your mind and body.



In other words, the way you treat your car should be no different than the way you treat your body.



“You have only one mind and one body for the rest of your life,” Buffett says. “If you aren’t taking care of them when you’re young, it’s like leaving that car out in hailstorms and letting rust eat away at it. If you don’t take care of your mind and body now, by the time you’re 40 or 50, you’ll be like a car that can’t go anywhere.”



Now, you might be wondering whether Buffett practices what he preaches — considering how&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/18/warren-buffett-buys-breakfast-from-mcdonalds-for-under-3-point-17.html" class="">vocal</a>&nbsp;the billionaire has been about his love for Coca-Cola, hamburgers, steaks and hash browns.



For the most part, the answer is yes.



When a New Jersey nutritional dentist&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/id/32544241" class="">wrote Buffett a letter</a>&nbsp;encouraging him to eat more healthy foods, he responded by saying his diet isn’t as bad as most might think.



“I have a wonderful doctor who nudges me in your direction every time I see him. All in all, I’ve enjoyed remarkably good health — largely because of genes, of course — but also, I think, because I&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/05/amazon-billionaire-ceo-jeff-bezos-ask-yourself-these-12-questions-to-live-a-long-happy-life.html" class="">enjoy life</a>&nbsp;so much every day, ”&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/id/32544241" class="">he said in his response</a>.



And back in 2007, when he was in his late 70s,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/id/32544241" class="">he told CNBC</a>&nbsp;that his doctor told him two years before: “Either you eat better or you exercise.”



Buffett chose the latter, which he called “the lesser of two evils.”

Billionaire Warren Buffett wants young people to know: Ignoring this is like ‘leaving a car out in hailstorms’

MAPUTO (Reuters) &#8211; Hundreds of thousands of people are still in need of aid after Cyclone Idai battered Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi in March. 



More than 1,000 people have been reported killed by the storm, the flooding it caused and heavy rains before it hit. The World Bank estimates the affected countries will need over $2 billion to recover.



Following is an outline of the disaster, according to government and U.N. officials.

Cyclone Idai made landfall on the night of March 14, near the port city of Beira, bringing heavy winds and rains. Two major rivers, the Buzi and the Pungue, burst their banks, submerging villages and leaving bodies floating in the water.

Crops damaged: 715,378 hectares



People affected: 1.85 million

On March 16, the storm hit eastern Zimbabwe, where it flattened homes and flooded communities in the Chimanimani and Chipinge districts.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">MALAWI</h3>



Before it arrived, the storm brought heavy rains and flooding to the lower Shire River districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje in Malawi’s south. The rains continued after the storm hit, compounding the misery of tens of thousands of people.

People injured: 672



People displaced: 19,328 households



People affected: 868,895

Hundreds of thousands displaced after Cyclone Idai, death toll over 1,000

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) &#8211; South Africa’s Northam Platinum said on Tuesday it had placed a 1.65 billion rand ($118 million) domestic medium term note and would use initial proceeds to repay other notes in issue.



The miner said the private placement of the notes fell under its 2 billion rand domestic medium term note programme and the paper has one- two- and three-year maturities.

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral has been saved after the roof collapsed Monday as a massive fire ripped through the structure. Firefighters say the fire has been largely extinguished.</li><li>The area surrounding the cathedral was evacuated in case the structure fell.</li><li>A French Interior Ministry official had previously said firefighters may not have been able to save the cathedral.</li></ul>



Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral has been saved from “total destruction,” according to a French fire official, after a massive fire ripped through the structure on Monday and caused the roof and main spire to collapse.



The blaze burned for eight hours, but has now been largely extinguished, according to firefighters. One official was quoted as saying&nbsp;the two iconic rectangular towers have been saved, which will come a relief after one of the towers caught fire earlier in the evening. Earlier, a French Interior Ministry official had said that firefighters might not be able to save the cathedral.



“The worst has been avoided, but the battle isn’t fully won yet,” French President&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/emmanuel-macron/" class="">Emmanuel Macron</a>&nbsp;said in a statement outside of the cathedral. He also expressed his sympathies to Catholics around the world, the people of Paris and the people of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/france/" class="">France</a>. The fire broke out just days before Easter.



“We will rebuild the cathedral together,” Macron said, adding that France will start an international fundraising campaign to raise money for the renovations.

President Macron is treating the fire as a national emergency.



Residents living close to the cathedral were evacuated in case the building collapsed, said Paris Mayor Anne Hildago. The area surrounding the cathedral, Paris’ Ile de la Cite, was also evacuated, according to Reuters.



One fireman was “seriously injured,” an official said. That was the only reported casualty, according to Reuters.

The Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the fire soon after the damage began. Late Monday, prosecutors said their preliminary findings suggested the huge fire had been started accidentally.



Firefighters at the scene directed much of their efforts toward saving the artwork stored at the back of the cathedral, which had been undergoing renovations.



Notably, 16 religious statues were removed from the cathedral for cleaning on Thursday — for the first time in over a century — and therefore escaped the fire.



The Paris mayor and firefighters warned people to stay away from the area.

At one point, as many as four hundred firefighters were working to put out the blaze, according to the Ministry of the Interior for France.



Earlier on Monday, a cathedral spokesman said the entire wooden interior of the Notre Dame was burning and likely to be destroyed.

The Vatican released a statement that it was praying for firefighters and all “those doing everything possible to confront this dramatic situation.”



“The Holy See has seen with shock and sadness the news of the terrible fire that has devastated the Cathedral of Notre Dame, symbol of Christianity in France and in the world,” the statement also said.



Notre Dame had been in the midst of renovations, with some sections under scaffolding.



The President of the U.S. Bishops’ conference, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, expressed his support for the people of Paris in a statement.



“The horrific fire that is engulfing the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris is shocking and saddens us all, for this particular cathedral is not only a majestic Church, it is also a world treasure,” he said, adding, “our hearts go out to the Archbishop and the people of Paris, and we pray for all the people of France, entrusting all to the prayers and intercession of the Mother of God, especially the firefighters battling the fire”

Paris’ Notre Dame ‘saved from total destruction,’ French fire official says, after blaze ravages cathedral

A military coup d’etat in Sudan has ended Omar al-Bashir’s 30-year rule. In a widely publicised press conference, the country’s Defence Minister Awad Ibn Ouf <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-47891470">announced</a>

<blockquote>
the toppling of the regime and detaining (of) its chief in a secure place.
</blockquote>

Al-Bashir’s whereabouts is of interest because he’s wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide in Darfur. 

The ICC’s case stretches back to 2005 with the publication of <a href="https://news.un.org/en/story/2005/02/127392-un-commission-finds-sudanese-government-responsible-crimes-darfur">a UN report</a> that accused the Sudanese government of systematic abuses in Darfur. The United Nations Security Council then referred the suspects to the ICC. 

In the following years, the ICC would release two arrest warrants against al-Bashir – in 2009 and in 2010 – on several counts of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. In 2014, the ICC’s Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/14/omar-al-bashir-celebrates-icc-decision-to-halt-darfur-investigation">shelved the case</a> due to a lack of cooperation in pushing for al-Bashir’s arrest. <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/oct/21/omar-bashir-travels-world-despite-war-crime-arrest-warrant">Many</a> saw the shelving as emblematic of the court’s lack of power over powerful individuals, especially sitting heads of state.

The fact that al-Bashir has been deposed will again raise questions about whether there’s a possibility of seeing the former Sudanese president facing trial at the ICC. Commentators have already expressed different opinions on whether he will or won’t end up facing trial at The Hague. Views either highlight the fact that he’s likely to face trial because he no longer enjoys the privileges associated with his position. Or that he still has influence over the new government and, as such, bringing him to The Hague would be extremely complicated.

I believe the trickier question is whether the ICC should prosecute the former Sudanese president. This might seem like a redundant and even immoral question – if not him, then who? But it’s not that simple. 

Let me be clear. I have no sympathy for al-Bashir – nor for any dictator whose policies harm, or aim to harm, civilians. 

But I believe the particular circumstances of al-Bashir’s case mean that the court is between a rock and a hard place. That’s because two very difficult issues arise out of the present circumstances. Both have serious implications for the court and its work, as well as whether sitting heads of state believe they can act with impunity.

<h2>The conundrum</h2>

The idea behind attempted prosecutions of sitting heads of state is that they should be prosecuted – irrespective of their position – in instances when crimes of huge magnitude have been committed.

Originally, the idea was to discourage sitting heads of states from committing heinous crimes by putting in place limits to the exercise of sovereign statehood. In other words, knowing that your position of power is not going to prevent international prosecution, should ideally act as a deterrent. 

Unfortunately, when the ICC attempted to turn this idea into pragmatic action, it met extraordinary resistance. In Kenya, <a href="https://www.icc-cpi.int/Pages/item.aspx?name=otp-statement-05-12-2014-2">for instance</a>, the prosecution against the current sitting Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta, was dropped in 2014 after the Chief Prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, said it was impossible to investigate the crimes further. This was because witnesses were terrified to testify and the Kenyan government refused to cooperate.

In recent years the <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/12/african-union-icc-kenyan-president">the African Union</a> has gone as far as suggesting that in the future the court should rather focus on mid-level officials.

But if the ICC doesn’t prosecute al-Bashir, it will give credit to critics who think that the court is essentially powerless against the most powerful political figures in a country. 

On the other hand, if it does, it would suggest that powerful individuals can only be prosecuted when they leave their positions of power. 

And here lies my preoccupation. 

If the Court prosecuted al-Bashir right now, it would be sending a worrying message to other dictators: do whatever you want, as long as you maintain power. Or, to be even more explicit, do whatever you can to maintain power. 

This is a strikingly dangerous message to project for two reasons.

<h2>Dangerous message</h2>

The first problematic message that taking al-Bashir to court would send involves war-torn countries.

The fact that many of the cases in which the ICC is expected to act happen in regions and countries at war, the message is likely to hinder the resolution of a conflict by providing an extra incentive to those in power not to step down. 

Syria provides an interesting example. In the context of the country’s civil war, an al-Bashir prosecution at this stage would warn Syrian leader Bashar Hafez al-Assad about what could happen if he stepped down. Given that recent diplomatic <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/07/syria-talks-led-russia-iran-turkey-revived-sochi-180730152251886.html">talks</a> to end the Syrian conflict largely revolved around Assad renouncing his presidency, seeing al-Bashir facing trial could stiffen Assad’s position even more.

The second problem is one of perception. To see al-Bashir face trial at The Hague, the Court needs the cooperation of the newly installed military government. But, as academic and Sudan expert Alex de Waal <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/11/world/africa/omar-bashir-sudan.html">points out</a>, al-Bashir was a spider at the centre of an intricate web. And it’s almost certain that at least parts of the new government have been involved in the crimes for which al-Bashir is wanted. Cooperation has historically meant that the Court would need to implicitly agree with the new government that it wouldn’t prosecute its members. 

There’s an uncomfortable precedent to this. The memory of Luis Moreno Ocampo, the former Chief Prosecutor of the ICC, posing for pictures with Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni’s government are still vivid. Back then, the major concern was about impartiality. As Mark Kersten has pointed out, this was <a href="https://justiceinconflict.org/2015/03/19/why-the-icc-wont-prosecute-museveni/">seen as</a> the ICC neglecting state-perpetrated crimes. The Court still needs [to recover from] this incident. 

Where does this leave the ICC? The situation isn’t easy to solve. It seems that the power that states still retain over the Court is an insurmountable obstacle in the prosecution of sitting heads of state. I particular, their willingness, or not, to cooperate. 

In this sense, I think that the ICC is in a lose/lose situation. 

Unfortunately, developments around any case against al-Bashir aren’t likely to redress these problems. Why the ICC is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Sudan’s Al-Bashir

DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) &#8211; Tanzania has agreed a new $1.7 billion financing deal with the World Bank to fund various projects during fiscal year 2019/20, its finance ministry said on Saturday.



The agreement, which is comprised of low-interest loans and grants, includes a $400m loan for education and $300m for a poverty reduction programme.



“Part of the financing will also be used to fund various infrastructure projects, such as roads, water, information and communication technology&#8230;and energy,” the ministry said in the statement.



Tanzania plans to raise its total spending in 2019-20 (July-June) slightly to 33.11 trillion shillings ($14.16 billion), with the funds going towards improving roads, railways and rural electricity supplies.



The financing deal was reached during talks between Tanzania’s finance and planning minister Philip Mpango and the World Bank Vice President for Africa Hafez Ghalem in Washington.



The spending is up from 32.48 trillion shillings in the fiscal year that will end in June.



Loans and grants are a big source of foreign currency for Tanzania.

“Business Adventures” is a compilation of 12 stories — previously published in The New Yorker, where Brooks was a staff writer — about some of the most important events in 20th Century corporate America. Each profile is a fascinating account of how a certain moment in history shaped an entire company.



But what truly makes the book so brilliant (apart from its wonderful prose) is that it can appeal to readers who aren’t even interested in the nature of finance. It offers a goldmine of lessons about people and life — our instinctive behaviors, what makes us excel and what troubles lie ahead if we give into our inherent savageries.



Here are most essential life lessons from “Business Adventures”:



1. When you become blind to change, you become obsolete.



In his book, Brooks writes about one of Ford Motor Company’s biggest failures: the 1958 <a class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-flop-bill-gates-favorite-case-studies-2014-7">Ford Edsel</a>, which the automaker had intended to be the “new and ultimate” car for middle-class Americans. Brooks notes that Ford wanted to make a car that fit the needs of the American public, so it polled the population to see what they wanted most.



Ford was dissatisfied with the poll results and ended up going its own way. Eager to create hype, it began marketing the car one year before it was even completed. And on launch day, the model was delivered with oil leaks and trunks that wouldn’t open. It was also mocked as being too expensive and using up too much gas.



When you stop paying attention to the evolving changes of society and human needs, you fall behind and become vulnerable to competitors.



2. Failure isn’t a bad thing — accept it, learn from it, and move on from it.



The big Edsel flop led to a $350 million loss. And yet, Ford’s executives took zero responsibility for their failures. In fact, they claimed to have done everything right.



While writing the story, Brooks said a marketing manager told him it was the customers who were at fault. “What they’d been buying for several years encouraged the industry to build exactly this kind of car,” the representative said. “We gave it to them, and they wouldn’t take it. Well, they shouldn’t have acted like that. And now the public wants these little beetles. I don’t get it!”



People often think,&nbsp;If I fail, I will lose something very important&nbsp;— like getting into a good college, working at (or starting) a great company, getting a promotion, making lots of money and so on. But learning from our mistakes is one of the greatest tools for learning; it gives us information on what we need to do differently to succeed in life.



3. Never underestimate the importance of company culture and values.



This is a powerful lesson for anyone — whether you’re a founder, manager, employee or job seeker.



Brooks describes Xerox founder Joseph C. Wilson as being ahead of his time in the ’60s because of how he prioritized building a compassionate work culture. He made it his duty to donate millions of dollars to charities and universities. He implemented progressive hiring policies during the civil rights movement.



“To set high goals, to have almost unattainable aspirations, to imbue people with the belief that they can be achieved&#8230;these are as important as the balance sheet, perhaps more so,”&nbsp;<a href="https://www.gatesnotes.com/media/features/books/Bill_Gates_John_Brooks_Business_Adventures_Xerox_Free_Chapter_eReader.pdf" class="">Wilson said once</a>&nbsp;according to Brooks.



Today, more than ever, employees value unity and purpose in a company — and they’re not afraid to quit or reject a job offer from a company with a bad reputation. Having good company culture will likely lead to higher productivity and motivation, fewer employee health issues and less turnover.



Keep this in mind as well if you’re a job seeker. Joining a company with poor culture won’t keep you happy in the long run.If you haven’t read the book&#8230;



Millennials weren’t born when Brooks’ classic first hit shelves in 1969. (Heck, their parents were barely out of grade school.) But every young and driven person should read “Business Adventures” if they want to deepen their expertise, excel in their ever-evolving careers and thrive in life.

Congress Party (NCP) Ahmed Harun. 



The
current whereabouts of Mr Bashir and Prime Minister Motazz Moussa are unknown,
but there are reports that they are in transition talks with the military. 



The
First Vice President and Defence Minister Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf, an old ally of Mr
Bashir, has sided with the military and has been selected to head a transitional
government. 



The
military was seen moving through the streets of Khartoum and raiding the
headquarters of the Islamic Movement which is headed by Bashir. Radio and
television stations were placed on alert this morning, and at 14:00 Mr Ibn Auf
addressed the nation with the highly anticipated “important announcement”. 



The
defence minister stated that a two-year transition period has begun, with the
military leading the country and relieving the previous regime of their power.
He also issued a new state of emergency and suspended the constitution, with
more news expected as the situation develops. 



The military coup d’état follows nearly four months of continuous anti-government demonstrations which started on December 18. These protests were initially sparked by deteriorating economic conditions such as rapid inflation, fuel shortages and a lack of liquidity.

On
Saturday, April 6, a coalition of opposition parties headed by the Sudanese
Professionals’ Association (SPA), the main protest organisers, organised the
biggest mass protest yet seen with an estimated 500,000 people. 



This
marked the anniversary of the end of Sudan’s 1985 national uprising, which led
to the overthrow of President Ja’afar Nimeiri, in favour of a democratically
led government. 



Clashes
on Saturday between the protesters and the security forces ensued, with the
security forces – meaning police and the National Intelligence and Security
Services (NISS) – using tear gas and live ammunition against the demonstrators.
This was a change in approach after uncommon restraint shown since protests
began late last year. 



Government
sources estimate that 21 people have been killed, including five soldiers. 



The
biggest twist in events happened when soldiers intervened to protect the
protesters against the security forces (on two separate occasions) with some of
them being killed. The protesters focused their attention of the army and
started protesting in front of their headquarters, calling for the military to
rise against the president and support their cause as they did in 1985. 



The
role of the army has caused may to compare events in Sudan with those in
Algeria where a protest movement also led to the toppling of a regime. 



Below we show data comparing protest escalation in the run-up to government transitions in North African states in recent years. Compared to the ‘Arab Spring’ events of 2011, which escalated very quickly as in Algeria this year, the Sudan revolt has been a sustained campaign of nearly four months and is more like events in Egypt in 2013.

Thursday’s
events mark the end of Mr Bashir’s 30-year rule which was marred by conflict,
accusations of war crimes, corruption, and the underdevelopment of Sudan. It is
unknown what is going to happen to him as he is wanted by the International
Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in
Darfur in 2003. 



While
they will be happy to see the back of the dictator, protesters have emphasised
that they want a civilian transitional government which contrasts with the
announcement by the military. They have said that they are willing to go back
to the streets if the army takes over with Mr Ibn Auf ruling the country as he
was the minister in charge of the protest crackdowns since the national
emergency declaration on February 22. 



The
recent announcement fell short of the protester’s demands and is likely to
inspire further demonstrations across the country.

Op-Ed: Sudan’s military takes control of the country

JOHANNESBURG/NAIROBI (Reuters) &#8211; At the edge of Nairobi’s Ngong Forest, thousands of used cars glitter in the hot sun on a dusty field, waiting for buyers. 



Imported from Japan or the Middle East, they offer an affordable route to vehicle ownership in Kenya and have dominated the market for decades.



That is an obstacle big carmakers must overcome if they are to crack Africa, a market promising rapid growth as trade tensions threaten sales elsewhere. African consumers also still need conventional engines just as demand in more traditional markets is curbed by restrictions on carbon emissions.



Volkswagen, BMW, Toyota, Nissan and others have joined forces to lobby governments for steps that would reduce the imports that have made sub-Saharan Africa notoriously difficult terrain and allow local production to flourish.



“The question on Africa isn’t, ‘Is it a market of the future?’” Mike Whitfield, Nissan’s top executive for Africa, told Reuters. “It’s a case of when.”



Four years after forming the Association of African Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) their efforts are starting to bear fruit. Carmakers that set up local assembly plants could get tax holidays of up to 10 years and duty exemptions in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana, according to government plans seen by Reuters.



Thomas Schaefer, who heads Volkswagen’s Africa business, said there is a potential market in sub-Saharan Africa for 3 to 4 million new cars, up from just 420,000 in 2017.



But that will require addressing the well-entrenched interests of second-hand car dealers, smugglers and lowering the price of new cars.



“It will largely depend on how successful the African governments are in limiting the amounts of second-hand imports and how price-competitive new vehicles can be with their tariffs,” said Craig Parker, Africa research director at Frost &amp; Sullivan, a U.S.-based market research firm.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">MULTIPLYING EFFECTS</h3>



Africa’s population and household incomes are rising rapidly. But its 1 billion inhabitants account for only 1 percent of the world’s new passenger car sales, industry data shows. South Africans bought over 85 percent of those vehicles.



The AAAM identified Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana as potential manufacturing hubs and helped draft legislation setting up standards and incentives.



Details of governments’ plans provided to Reuters demonstrate that African nations are keen to secure a spot as a beachhead for the industry. Nigeria and Ghana are preparing to offer automakers tax holidays of up to 10 years and duty-free imports of parts and components used in local assembly. Nigeria also plans to double the levy on new, fully-built imported vehicles to 70 percent to boost demand for locally produced cars, though the policy’s approval has been delayed. In Kenya, automakers will pay no import or excise duties and get a 50-percent corporate tax break. For African nations facing massive demographic pressures, such concessions make sense if they create jobs, said Jelani Aliyu, of Nigeria’s National Automotive Design and Development Council. “The multiplying effects are exponential,” said Aliyu, who foresees supporting industries developing around the plants.



Legislative and fiscal frameworks are being finalised, but companies are already investing millions of dollars in new plants.



VW and Nissan have set up operations in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana or have pledged to do so. Honda and Peugeot have launched assembly plants in Nigeria, and Peugeot has done the same in Kenya. Carmakers sorely need the business. Their South African divisions, which typically direct operations elsewhere on the continent, face stagnating domestic sales and scant growth prospects in their main export market, Europe. A chaotic Brexit or U.S. tariff hikes could further dampen sales.



Toyota South Africa’s chief executive Andrew Kirby said the strategy is: “Focus on Africa because Africa is going to grow significantly.”



A pivot to Africa could also help insulate automakers from the immediate effects of the electric vehicle revolution. The continent is ill-placed to join it at the moment due to the higher prices of EVs and unreliable power grids.



Just 66 electric cars were sold last year in South Africa &#8211; the continent’s most developed economy.



“Africa will most likely remain as the last bastion of internal combustion engines,” Parker said.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">DISTORTED MARKET</h3>



Nevertheless, industry officials say the biggest hurdle to developing the market for new cars is dumping from countries such as Japan, where strict vehicle inspections force cars out of circulation after just a few years.



They say this distorts the market by allowing dealers to buy the cars at scrap prices and export them to Africa.



They blame the cheap imports for killing off assembly sectors in a number of African countries including Nigeria, which built around 150,000 cars per year until the 1980s.



Political will is needed to change that, and without it there is little point in considering a country for local production, according to VW’s Schaefer.



“The markets &#8230; are literally not functioning right now due to importation of used vehicles,” he said.



In Kenya, the government plans to wind down imports of cars more than three years old by 2021. Exceptions will be made for passenger vehicles with 1.5 litre or smaller engines.



The policy could see mid-range imported models double in price, according to the 300-member Kenya Auto Bazaar Association (KABA). The lobby group has taken out ads in local newspapers denouncing the policy and is demanding a meeting with Kenya’s president.



Mark Oburu, KABA’s vice-chairman, said the move would hit an industry that delivers 85 percent of Kenyan car purchases.



“The middle class will not be able to own a vehicle of their choice,” he said.



In the Nairobi bazaar, Grace was shopping for her eldest son’s first car. She said she could not afford to buy a new one.



“If they don’t rescind that decision, we will be on boda bodas (motor-bikes).”



Both Ghana and Nigeria have also pledged to tackle the issue. Nigeria hiked taxes on imported used cars in 2014, but smuggling has undermined that effort to boost demand for local production, according to manufacturers and government officials.



Used cars are also among the leading imports in many African countries, and governments will have to wean themselves off the associated tax revenues.



There are other stumbling blocks: access to financing is limited, and countries that don’t host assembly plants must also be persuaded to limit used imports and reduce tariffs on African-made vehicles. That will be hard to do if the only outcome they see is higher sticker prices.



“The purpose is not to take the most lucrative slice of the industry,” said Ghana’s minister of trade and industry, Alan Kyerematen, suggesting that neighbours could produce components for his country’s assembly plants.



Auto executives acknowledge the challenges but point to a famous precedent. When VW and GM entered China in the 1980s and 90s, vehicle ownership rates were lower than in many African markets. Today, those two companies alone sell over 3.5 million vehicles annually in China. “Everybody was laughing, saying China doesn’t need cars, they only need bicycles,” Schaefer said.

Following months of protests, and a prolonged sit-in outside the military headquarters in Khartoum, Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir was placed under house arrest on April 11 as the country’s military <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-sudan-politics/sudans-bashir-steps-down-government-sources-say-idUSKCN1RN0AY">prepared for a transitional government</a>.

Many have described the Sudanese uprising as a “<a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/01/sudan-protests-dead-bread-protests-180112095320512.html">bread protest</a>” against a rise in inflation. In fact the Sudanese people took to the streets for much more than a struggling economy, or the price of bread. They have been calling for freedom, peace, justice and the <a href="https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190406-sudan-thousands-rally-for-bashirs-departure/">downfall of the regime</a>. 

And they have finally won. 

The generation leading the uprising was born and raised during <a href="https://www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/hrrpt/2016/af/265306.htm">al-Bashir’s 30-year rule</a>. The protesters are mostly young professionals who have been directly affected by the regime’s <a href="https://books.google.co.ke/books?hl=en&amp;lr=&amp;id=9dWLDwAAQBAJ&amp;oi=fnd&amp;pg=PP1&amp;dq=islamization+and+arabization+policies+sudan+&amp;ots=9M0xKuJv1-&amp;sig=uq8DQBeecnBb0qaB68aQMN1zaGw&amp;redir_esc=y#v=onepage&amp;q=islamization%20and%20arabization%20policies%20sudan&amp;f=false">Islamisation and Arabisation policies</a>. 

These policies have been particularly harsh against women’s freedoms and rights, which explains why young Sudanese women are at the heart of the uprising. The policies have also resulted in multiple years of conflict and insecurity in Darfur, South Kordofan, and the Blue Nile. 

Sudan’s governing system has already deteriorated because of years of state autocracy, nepotism, corruption and violent conflict. 

Al-Bashir’s removal may bring down the state if a strong successor isn’t positioned to replace him. But in my view, given how Sudan has historically been run, the democratic preferences of many young protesters is unlikely to come to fruition. Their expectations for a functioning democracy, with free and fair elections, and constitutional freedoms will not be met unless the next leader of Sudan is a reformist. 

<h2>Al-Bashir’s first responses</h2>

The regime responded to the protests in three ways. 

First, al-Bashir tried to quickly reconsolidate his power by proposing constitutional changes that would have allowed him to stand for reelection in 2020. That was quickly <a href="https://www.africanews.com/2019/02/16/sudan-proposal-to-scrap-term-limits-shelved-amidst-persistent-protests/">taken off the table</a>. 

He then declared a year-long nationwide <a href="https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2019/02/28/omar-al-bashir-declares-a-state-of-emergency-in-sudan">state of emergency</a>. The emergency state prohibited “unauthorised” gatherings and movements. Violence followed as the state deployed <a href="https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2019/04/sudan-government-mounts-lethal-offensive-against-protesters-killing-nine-blocking-food-and-water-supplies/">heavy-handed tactics</a> to break up the protests. 

Al-Bashir also dissolved federal and state governments, replacing almost all of Sudan’s 18 state governors with army officers. And he <a href="https://af.reuters.com/article/sudanNews/idAFL5N20H5X9">ordered parliament</a> to delay deliberations over proposed constitutional amendments that would allow him to run for an extra-constitutional term in next year’s elections. 

When the protests didn’t subside he called for broad-based dialogue. 

In a bid to stay in power, al-Bashir also reached out to those who had backed him financially on previous occasions. These included the Persian Gulf states as well as Egypt and Russia. However, these allies have done little more than offer him <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-sudan-protests-qatar/qatari-emir-hosts-bashir-backs-unity-in-restive-sudan-idUSKCN1PH1I5">vague statements</a> of support.

He also began to lose the support of Western backers. Once warm to al-Bashir, they recently <a href="https://www.voanews.com/a/us-britain-norway-demand-political-transition-plan-in-sudan/4868303.html?utm_source=Media+Review+for+April+10%2C+2019&amp;utm_campaign=Media+Review+for+April+10%2C+2019&amp;utm_medium=email">began to issue stern reprimands</a>.

<h2>The protests</h2>

By the time al-Bashir stepped down protests had taken hold in <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/24/world/africa/sudan-protests-omar-hassan-al-bashir.html">more than 35 cities</a> across the country. People took to the streets in more and more places following the <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/12/prompted-protests-sudan-181224114651302.html">first demonstration</a> in the northern Nile-side town of Atbara. 

The current uprising was triggered by a government decision to <a href="https://www.dabangasudan.org/en/all-news/article/sudan-s-plans-to-lift-subsidies-meet-fierce-resistance">lift subsidies</a> on essential commodities and to <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/africa/sudan-bread-price-protests-rebellion-government-khartoum-a8697986.html">drastically increase</a> bread prices. In a matter of weeks, the protest in Atbara would reach the capital Khartoum 349 kilometres away. 

As protests erupted across the country agents of the powerful National Intelligence and Security Service and riot police began to crack down on demonstrators. Throughout, however, the army refrained from intervening. Rumours began to surface that al-Bashir was ready to hand over power to the armed force. But this was swiftly rejected by the Minister of Information and government spokesman of the government, Hassan Ismail.

In the final days before al-Bashir stepped down thousands of demonstrators reached the ministry compound in Khartoum. This also houses al-Bashir’s residence, the secret service headquarters and the defence ministry.

Protesters then upped the stakes by trying to gain support from the army. What began to emerge was that senior officers were possibly weakening, or that they were hoping to use the protests to pressure factions within the ruling elite. 

Protesters used a number of tactics to keep the momentum going. These included using social media such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. All evolved during the uprising despite the government’s attempts to block the user, and Virtual Private Networks were used to access the women’s only Facebook group called “<a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/02/sudans-women-expose-injustice-facebook-190216164557780.html">Minbar Chat</a>”. 

Videos recorded by the protesters became important in documenting the crimes perpetrated by the security forces during the peaceful protests. They also became the main means of informing the Sudanese people and the international community about the brutality of al-Bashir’s regime. 

Now that al-Bashir has resigned he will probably be required to leave the country by agreeing to safe passage to a friendly state, possibly somewhere like Egypt, or Qatar. The only way he can remain in Sudan is if he had prior agreement with the military to ensure his safety. It’s possible that the new generals he appointed after the declaration of a state of emergency might side with him. 

Their support could have been one of the reasons why he felt that he could step down. How Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir was forced out of power by protesters

HARARE (Reuters) &#8211; Zimbabwe’s economy grew by 4 percent last year, below an initial target of 4.5 percent, treasury said on Thursday, as the country struggles with a severe shortage of dollars and surging inflation.



Treasury said in its fourth quarter report ending December that the government’s foreign and domestic debt stood at $17.8 billion, with 46 percent of that amount owed to foreign lenders.

Prince Harry isn’t a dad yet — he and Meghan Markle are&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/15/uks-duchess-of-sussex-meghan-is-pregnant-kensington-palace-says.html" class="">expecting their first child</a>&nbsp;this spring — in but it already sounds like he might put a limit on how much time his future children spend playing video games.



The Duke of Sussex isn’t a fan of the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/04/ninja-blevins-from-a-fast-food-job-to-millionaire-fortnite-gamer.html" class="">massively popular</a>&nbsp;online game&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/25/fortnite-video-games-esports.html" class="">Fortnite</a>, with the British royal going as far as to call for a ban of the game at an event at a West London YMCA on Thursday.



“That game shouldn’t be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household?” Prince Harry told reporters at the event,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-47813894" class="">according to the BBC</a>. Prince Harry added that he thinks Fortnite is too addictive, especially for young players.



“It’s created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible,” the prince said Thursday. “It’s so irresponsible.”



The free-to-play Fortnite, made by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/12/epic-games-company-behind-fortnite-was-founded-by-a-college-kid.html" class="">video game company Epic Games</a>, is a multi-player, “battle royale” survival game pitting 100 players against each other at a time. The players look for weapons and tools to try and build structures while killing each other in an effort to be the last person standing.



The game launched in 2017 and quickly became one of the world’s most popular video games, with more than <a class="" href="https://www.engadget.com/2019/03/20/fortnite-250-million-epic-games-sweeney-interview-gdc/">250 million registered players</a>around the world, as of last month. The game has had 10.8 million people playing at any given time, Epic Games said in March. And, while other games (<a class="" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/20/royale-video-game-rumble-apex-legends-smashing-fortnite-records.html">including Electronic Arts’ “Apex Legends”</a>) have recently seen a surge in popularity to challenge Fortnite, the latter is still potentially worth as much as $12 billion as a franchise for Epic Games, <a class="" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/21/eas-apex-is-crushing-fortnite-heres-what-that-means-for-its-stock.html">according to one estimate</a>.



But, the massive popularity of Fortnite has also come with&nbsp;<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/fortnite-addiction-forcing-kids-video-172134823.html" class="">concerns</a>&nbsp;that the game is addictive, with such complaints coming from everyone from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-fortnite-triggered-an-unwinnable-war-between-parents-and-their-boys-11545397200" class="">parents</a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/18/divorce-online-survey-couples-now-blaming-fortnite-for-divorce.html" class="">spouses</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/fortnite-addiction-becoming-problem-major-193558554.html" class="">employers</a>. Even the World Health Organization&nbsp;<a href="http://www.who.int/features/qa/gaming-disorder/en/" class="">weighed in</a>&nbsp;on the issue of addictive video games last summer, with WHO officially recognizing “gaming disorder” as a mental health condition afflicting gamers who can lack control over their playing habits for periods of months at a time.



Prince Harry previously expressed his Fortnite concerns in October, when he&nbsp;<a href="https://people.com/royals/prince-harry-fortnite-controversy/" class="">reportedly told</a>&nbsp;a group of 8-year-old UK students that they “shouldn’t really play Fortnite,” at their age.



In the past, the Duke of Sussex has talked openly about playing video games, and he even&nbsp;<a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/prince-harry/9818460/Prince-Harry-driving-wedge-between-forces-and-Afghan-locals.html" class="">drew some criticism</a>&nbsp;in 2013 for seemingly comparing his role in the military, as co-pilot of an Apache helicopter, to using a video-game controller.



“It’s a joy for me because I’m one of those people who loves playing PlayStation and Xbox, so with my thumbs I like to think I’m probably quite useful,”&nbsp;<a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/prince-harry/9818460/Prince-Harry-driving-wedge-between-forces-and-Afghan-locals.html" class="">he told The Telegraph</a>&nbsp;about manning a helicopter’s weapons in 2013.



Meanwhile, Prince Harry also has concerns about the addictive potential of social media, which the Duke of Sussex said on Thursday is “more addictive than alcohol and drugs.”



Despite the comment, Prince Harry and Markle recently launched their own official Instagram page for the House of Sussex on Tuesday.



A representative for Epic Games did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

LONDON (Reuters) &#8211; WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested by British police on Thursday after they were invited into the Ecuadorean embassy where he has been holed up since 2012.



“Julian Assange, 47, has today, Thursday 11 April, been arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) at the Embassy of Ecuador,” police said.



Police said they arrested Assange after being “invited into the embassy by the Ambassador, following the Ecuadorean government’s withdrawal of asylum.”

WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange arrested

CAIRO (Reuters) &#8211; Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has stepped down and consultations are under way to set up a transitional council to run the country, government sources and a provincial minister said on Thursday.



The minister of production and economic resources in North Darfur Adel Mahjoub Hussein told the Dubai-based al-Hadath TV that “there are consultations to form a military council to take over power after President Bashir stepped down”.
